HJMH would like to highlight their November Volunteer/Player of the Month Alia Drummond.
Alia is a first-year peewee hockey player. Aside from being a constant attendant of her local practices, Alia practices and plays games with the Yukon North Stars female peewee team in Whitehorse most weekends. Last month, Alia was the only female player from Haines Junction to travel with this team to the Wickenheiser Female Hockey Festival in Calgary. In addition to taking in all the great activities, seminars, meeting Hailey Wickenheiser and other female pro-hockey players; her team was also able to go undefeated in the tournament and bring home a GOLD medal.

Alia has committed over three hours so far to volunteering for HJMH, including helping with set up and clean-up of events, and assisting new skaters at the Learn-to-Skate clinic. She was also able to raise the second most pledges in this year’s skate-a-thon. Keep up the great work representing HJMHA Alia!

The month of Dec and January will be busy as well.  December 11-12 is PICTURE day. HJMH would like to thank Bruce Binder for offering his time and Photography experience. The pictures will be a great keepsake!

Community Wellness
Dakwäkäda nda dän kų – Haines Junction Health Centre News
It’s not too late to get your flu shot! Walk-in or call for an appointment to ensure that you and your loved ones are protected from the flu this season. Remember, handwashing is the best way to prevent spreading and contracting viral illness.

Naloxone Kits are available at the Haines Junction Health Centre. Fentanyl is deadly and present in the Yukon. If you are using drugs, don’t use them along and have a Naloxone kit available. Kits are available to anyone for free from the clinic, with a 20-minute training session. It’s confidential and could save a life!

    About

    On the 2nd Tuesday of each month, the CBC Community Reporter for Dakwäkäda-Haines Junction (Kari Johnston) speaks on Yukon Morning with Christine Grenier at around 8:20 am. Tune in at 103.5 FM.

    +++ Kari's Note +++
    These transcripts are not verbatim of what was said on the radio. These notes are prepared in advance of the interview. Due to time, and how I am prompted by the host, not everything is read on air.

    Where do I get the content?

    Most of the content is written by other community members. I just edit it a bit and try to make it flow. I do seek out some content myself, and I often refer to the Happenings of Haines Junction Facebook Page.

    I try to email community event organizers a few days in advance to get the content. If you would like to be on that email list, please use the contact me below.
