👋 Introduction 👉Weather: Sha Kuli 👉Thank you to CAFN for hosting a wonderful career fair on May 1 and youth gathering May 2-3. 👉Thank you to everyone who participated in the Justice For Anthony Primozic gathering and protest 👉 Sha Shaw Corporation, CAFN Economic Development, and Da Daghay Development Corporation hosted the Bears Lair Indigenous Youth Entrepreneurship Camp at the end of April. Youth from across the Yukon gathered at Da Kų Cultural Centre to make new friends, develop new skills, and compete for first place. A huge congratulations to the team Summit Yukon Tours and CEO Naveah Joe and Operations Manager Twylla Riep and their team mates on their victory! 👉 Congratulations to Mats'äsäna Mą Primozic for winning the Arctic Inspiration Youth Prize on Tuesday night for Łä̀ch'i Kų̀ Indigenous Tourism Collective! 👉And the beautiful funeral service for our beloved Elayne Hurlburt this past weekend. Elayne leaves behind a remarkable legacy of volunteerism and community care. I will deeply miss her monthly email reminder to include this CBC report in The Echo — “It’s the town’s record!” she would always remind me — our community newsletter that she and so many dedicated volunteers prepared with such love and commitment. 👋St Elias Seniors Society 👉Mondays 11:00 to 1:00 carpet bowling, floor curling, indoor walking and coffee time in the Convention Centre Atrium 👉Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:00 Chair Yoga Class in the Grand Hall of the Convention Centre. Open to everyone. We'll be riding again soon. Until then, please stay off the trails. Riding on trails during periods of rain and spring thaw can leave ruts, cause erosion and make the trail unsafe for others. Please do your part to keep these trails in great shape! 👉 Volunteers are also planning a bike tune-up day in the Bike Skills Park parking lot. Bring any bikes in need of a tune up to be ready for the riding season! More details coming soon. 👉Phase 2 of Bike Skills park construction is planned for July. This includes the pump track and a run bike track. 👋YukonU 👉 First Aid courses are being offered: May 23 &24, June 6&7 and June 8&9. Contact the campus to register at 634-8800 or [email protected] 👋Bakery 👉Reopens May 20! 👋 Adventure Time 👉If you want to come visit HJ but don’t have access to a reliable vehicle, Adventure Time runs a shuttle service all winter long, on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. 👋Thrift Store 👉 The Haines Junction Thrift Shop, located in the basement of the Log Church, is open every Thursday from 2-6 pm, until the end of May. Donations of clean good condition clothing and small household items can be placed outside the Thrift Shop doors until May 8. After that we are unable to accept donations until the fall. The year end sale will be held on May 28th, 29th and 30th. After that the Thrift Shop will be closed for the summer. 👋Kluane Region Food Hamper program 👉The Kluane Region Food Hamper program supports food hamper delivery from Takhini River Subdivision to Beaver Creek. The program supports over 150 clients and 6 “mini caches.” Funding is provided by the Food Bank Society of Yukon and the Food Banks Canada. This is a volunteer run program supported by community partners: Village of Haines Junction, Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, Kluane First Nation and White River First Nation. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who dedicate their time to the program, donate money or food. 👋Yukon Bird Club 👉Wed 13 May: Haines Junction – Spring migration at the scenic lagoons with Julie Bauer & Terry Skjonsberg. Follow the accounts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to see lots of amazing HJ content and local business features. 👋St Elias Community School 👉Elementary Spring Fling Dance at SECS happening next Wednesday, May 13th in the school gym. Open for K4-Gr. 7 students and their families. K4-3 students must have an adult with them. Come for lemonade, popcorn, a bake sale, karaoke, and dancing! Tie Dye clothing, bandanas, and scrunchies will also be available for purchase. Thanks Dawn Dyce and Erica Miller for making this event happen for the students! 👋Kluane Lake Research Station 👉The Kluane Lake Research Station (KLRS) is kicking off the 2026 season with a May Long Community BBQ at KLRS on Monday May 18 at 12-3 pm. Everyone is welcome! Join us in Silver City for lunch and activities:
The University of Maine is hosting a Glacier Travel & Safety Workshop at the Kluane Lake Research Station on May 21 at 6-8 pm. The course will be run by UMaine glaciologists and a Canadian Mountain Guide. They will cover risks of glacier travel, rope system for glacier travel, and intro to knots and hitches. The workshop is open to all, but there is only room for 12 participants. Email Dom at [email protected] to sign up. KLRS regularly hosts community events throughout the summer. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for updates! 👋Pine Lake Run! 👉Registration page: https://raceroster.com/.../2026/119394/pine-lake-triathlon 1 km swim, 23 km bike, 6 km run Start at Pine Lake Beach, swim over the lake. Bike at Bear Creek to Haines Junction’s Muffins. Then run back to the beach. Individuals or as a team. This is a fun race for everyone. The most important is not to win, but to join it and have fun. There will be a barbecue, finisher t-skirt, sticker and couple prices after the race on beach.
