This is the May 7, 2026 CBC Yukon morning radio community report for Dakwakada-Haines Junction. This report is produced from information sent by the community or gathered from bulletin boards and Facebook groups for HJ. Please let Kari Johnston know of any errors or omissions. 👋 Introduction

👉Weather: Sha Kuli
👉Thank you to CAFN for hosting a wonderful career fair on May 1 and youth gathering May 2-3.
👉Thank you to everyone who participated in the Justice For Anthony Primozic gathering and protest
👉 Sha Shaw Corporation, CAFN Economic Development, and Da Daghay Development Corporation hosted the Bears Lair Indigenous Youth Entrepreneurship Camp at the end of April. Youth from across the Yukon gathered at Da Kų Cultural Centre to make new friends, develop new skills, and compete for first place. A huge congratulations to the team Summit Yukon Tours and CEO Naveah Joe and Operations Manager Twylla Riep and their team mates on their victory!
👉 Congratulations to Mats'äsäna Mą Primozic for winning the Arctic Inspiration Youth Prize on Tuesday night for Łä̀ch'i Kų̀ Indigenous Tourism Collective!
👉And the beautiful funeral service for our beloved Elayne Hurlburt this past weekend. Elayne leaves behind a remarkable legacy of volunteerism and community care. I will deeply miss her monthly email reminder to include this CBC report in The Echo — “It’s the town’s record!” she would always remind me — our community newsletter that she and so many dedicated volunteers prepared with such love and commitment.

    About

    On the 2nd Thursday of each month, the CBC Community Reporter for Dakwäkäda-Haines Junction (Kari Johnston) speaks on CBC morning radio show at around 8:20 am. Tune in at 103.5 FM.

    +++ Kari's Note +++
    These transcripts are not verbatim of what was said on the radio. These notes are prepared in advance of the interview. Due to time, and how I am prompted by the host, not everything is read on air.

    Where do I get the content?

    Most of the content is written by other community members. I just edit it a bit and try to make it flow. I do seek out some content myself, and I often refer to the Happenings of Haines Junction Facebook Page.

    I try to email community event organizers a few days in advance to get the content. If you would like to be on that email list, please use the contact me below.
