This is the July 11, 2024 CBC Yukon morning radio community report for Dakwakada-Haines Junction. This report is produced from information sent by the community or gathered from bulletin boards and Facebook groups for HJ. Please let Kari Johnston know of any errors or omissions. The report is also published to volunteerhainesjunction.com

Intro

  • Weather has been nice. Beautiful sunny day today. It seemed like a cool start to the season with many commenting that gardens seem like they are a week or two behind. We could use some rain.
  • Acknowledge the bear attack – and wish to extend gratitude to the first responders and grief to the bear family. Our community really comes together to help each other out when awful incidents like this take place – fundraising dinner, go fund me, etc. The Pine Lake campground was closed for a week but has now reopened. A reminder that everywhere you go in the Yukon is bear country and to always take the appropriate precautions.
  • Big thank you to the organizers of the Bluegrass festival, Kluane Chilkat Bike Relay,  staff at Da Ku and the Visitor's Center for the June 21 events celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day and the Village for hosting a lovely Canada Day celebration and parade.
  • The local summer camps are in full swing and kids are having a wonderful time.

    About

    On the 2nd Thursday of each month, the CBC Community Reporter for Dakwäkäda-Haines Junction (Kari Johnston) speaks on CBC morning radio show at around 8:20 am. Tune in at 103.5 FM.

    +++ Kari's Note +++
    These transcripts are not verbatim of what was said on the radio. These notes are prepared in advance of the interview. Due to time, and how I am prompted by the host, not everything is read on air.

    Where do I get the content?

    Most of the content is written by other community members. I just edit it a bit and try to make it flow. I do seek out some content myself, and I often refer to the Happenings of Haines Junction Facebook Page.

    I try to email community event organizers a few days in advance to get the content. If you would like to be on that email list, please use the contact me below.
