👉Weather: Sha kulį. It's sunny outside today!
👉July has just flown by. Gardens are coming along. So many hares this year - every morning we’re counting the rabbits out in the yard.
👉Thank you to the Village for hosting a lovely Canada Day parade and to the Committee who is preparing the memorabilia and commemoration for the Old Hall for a fantastic day.
👉A big thank you to the organizers of the Bluegrass Festival and the Bike Relay and the Southern Tutchone Hand Games Tournament in Takhini.

👉Parks Canada a great lineup of free programs for all ages running until the end of August.
 
Parks Day Guided Hike | Saturday July 18 | 11am-5pm
Sheep Creek trail
 
Parks Day is just around the corner! 
On July 18 from 11am – 5:00pm, learn about how climate change is impacting the hydrology, vegetation and wildlife in the Park. The hike will begin at A'ay chu west parking lot – no registration required! Please wear sturdy footwear, dress for the weather and bring water and snacks. We will hike 10 km return with 430m of elevation gain.

Kluane National Park and Reserve Visitor Centre in Haines Junction
 
Dive into the heart of the park through engaging speakers, films, and traditional stories.
 
 
July 22: Rooted: Indigenous Stories Screening Series
 
This screening is a collaboration between CBC and Parks Canada, bringing Indigenous
led stories to parks and sites across the country. Discover the Kluane region through archival
footage, followed by a powerful compilation of Indigenous stories from the CBC Creator
Network.

👋Pedal Junction
👉 Notice: Phase 2 of Bike Skills park construction is planned for July. This includes the pump track and a run bike track. There will be heavy equipment and workers on site during business hours. Please follow their guidance on what parts of the park are off limits during construction. There is a great video up on their Instagram/Facebook feed to learn more the park’s development


Pedal Junction raffle tickets are on sale this week! Support the Bike Skills Park, win great prizes, and help grow outdoor recreation in Dakwäkäda/Haines Junction. Contact us or visit participating local businesses to get your tickets!  


Grand opening is planned for August 6, 2026 at 5pm with the raffle draw at 6PM.

👋Yukon Youth Conservation Corps (Y2C2)
👉The Yukon Environment, Yukon Youth Conservation Corps (Y2C2) are doing a soapberry removal project in Haines Junction the week of July 13. They will be removing berry producing bushes in the areas around the St Elias School, Youth Centre trails, bike skills park as well as at Pine Lake campground. Soapberry bush removal within the community has been highlighted as one of the key ways to reduce natural bear attractants.

This weekend they are hosting Kingswardfish on Friday and the Compassion Pills on Saturday.


👋Junction Arts and Music
JAM is hosting LUMBER, at the Village Bakery on July 25th @ 12 noon. This new one-hour play - written and produced, and starring Metis theatre artist Colin Wolf - features storytelling, comedy, a chainsaw (or two!), and just enough therapy to hold the good ship Jack Bennet together.

👋Kluane Region Food Hamper program
👉The Kluane Region Food Hamper program supports food hamper delivery from Takhini River Subdivision to Beaver Creek. The program supports over 150 clients and 6 “mini caches.” Funding is provided by the Food Bank Society of Yukon and the Food Banks Canada. This is a volunteer run program supported by community partners: Village of Haines Junction, Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, Kluane First Nation and White River First Nation. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who dedicate their time to the program, donate money or food.

Tickets are on sale now and selling fast for ages 2-12! Check out the website for all the details on the performances and the 30 workshops and other activities happening over the weekend. Weekend passes for ages 2-4 in Todder Town are $25 and weekend passes for ages 5- 12 are $40.

👉 Has started a new social media campaign called “GoHainesJunction”. Follow the accounts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to see lots of amazing HJ content and local business features.

👉KLRS regularly hosts community events throughout the summer. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for updates!


👋Pine Lake Triathalon!!

1 km swim, 23 km bike, 6 km run
Start at Pine Lake Beach, swim over the lake. Bike at Bear Creek to Haines Junction’s Muffins. Then run back to the beach. Individuals or as a team. This is a fun race for everyone. The most important is not to win, but to join it and have fun. There will be a barbecue, finisher t-skirt, sticker and couple prices after the race on beach.

👋Paint Mountain Hike/Run
👉Sunday, August 30, 2026 at 9:00am
After lots of hiking, we find trail around the top and back of Paint Mountain in a 30km loop. Thought it would be fun to get a group together to hike/run it at the end of August. Can run or hike, with the group or solo, and aiming to be done in under 12 hours will have Norwegian waffles at the start to carb load
We will meet at the Paint Mountain subdivision parking lot to start at 9am, any one can join. Loop goes around the back and up, which isn’t too steep. It is an amazing view of the St Elias range.
Self supported pack water food and bear spray of course. Let Rune know if you have questions.

👉Romp n Run is on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-11:30am
Come enjoy a facilitated program, followed by a healthy snack, and free play.


👋Community Climbing Night - Paint Mountains Thursdays👋Thursdays are community climbing nights. Meet at the Pine Lake Cul-de-sac
5:30pm at the cul de sac or whenever you can make it at orange corner!
We have gear for beginners or people who just don't have their gear with them at the moment - shoes, helmets, harnesses. Give me a shout if you are coming later and will need gear. I'll make sure to haul it to the crag for you!


👋Haines Junction Softball Nights!
Looking for something fun to do this summer? Come out and join us for some casual softball!
We’ll be playing Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7:00 PM at the school field. A chance to get outside, have some laughs, meet neighbours, and enjoy the evening.
No equipment? No problem! Bats, balls, and gloves will be provided. Just bring yourself, a water bottle, and a willingness to have fun.
All skill levels welcome — whether you haven’t played in years or you’re picking up a glove for the first time.
See you on the field! Invite your friends and family!
