👋 Introduction

👉Weather: K’ùk kulį- it is cloudy

👉 It has been a WINDY start to the spring, a bit on the cool side and DRY. Yesterday’s thunderstorms brought a bit of rain but also heightened anxiety. I’ve chatted with several people who have been busy making sure they have copies of their essential documents photocopied by the door, just in case we get a fire alert.

👉A big thank you to all of the volunteer groups who have been out cleaning up the community. It looks beautiful!

👉The grad parade was last night for St Elias Community School – a huge congratulations to everyone!

👉 A huge thank you to the Bluegrass Festival volunteers and organizers for last week’s fantastic event.

👉A big congratulations to Isabelle Piche with Adventure Time Yukon for winning Yukonstruct’s Innovator of the Year!!

👉 Bear sighting in town the last few days near the Apartments/Hume Street. A good reminder to be Bear Aware, travel with bear spray and keep dogs on leashes.

👉 Phase 4B of water/wastewater replacement underway – they are currently working near Frostys. It’s so great to see the continued investment in our community in our infrastructure. We’re a growing town, with 28 lots coming into market later this summer/fall.

👉 A reminder that water conservation has been in effect for a few weeks now due to well pump needing to be replaced.

👋Champagne and Aishihik First Nations

👉Da Kų Nän Ts’èddhyèt

Friday Night Salmon Bake ft. THE LUCKY ONES The Lucky Ones
Hailing from every corner of the Yukon—Old Crow, Carcross, Whitehorse, Dawson City, Mayo, and Faro—The Lucky Ones deliver a foot-stomping blend of country-roots and bluegrass, steeped in Northern soul. Their sound channels the spirit of old-time barn dances and smoky tavern nights, all wrapped in a fresh, contemporary edge.
Join us at The Bakery for a one-of-a-kind evening as The Lucky Ones take the stage with a mix of original members and a few stellar fill-ins. While some of the crew are off touring, the show promises the same unmistakable spark, musical camaraderie, and Yukon warmth fans have come to love.

You can expect a night that’s equal parts high-energy and heartfelt, lively fiddle, rolling banjo, sweet mandolin, steady upright bass, and harmonies that hit you right in the chest.
Whether you're singing along, tapping your toes, or swaying by the bar, this is music meant to be felt.

This is bluegrass with grit, soul, and a whole lot of heart!

Whether he’s strumming an acoustic ballad or grooving through a classic rock favorite, Ed’s performances are heartfelt, nostalgic, and effortlessly charming. His music invites you to slow down, sing along, and feel the familiar tug of memories set to song.

    About

On the 2nd Thursday of each month, the CBC Community Reporter for Dakwäkäda-Haines Junction (Kari Johnston) speaks on CBC morning radio show at around 8:20 am. Tune in at 103.5 FM.

    +++ Kari's Note +++
These transcripts are not verbatim of what was said on the radio. These notes are prepared in advance of the interview. Due to time, and how I am prompted by the host, not everything is read on air.

Where do I get the content?

Most of the content is written by other community members. I just edit it a bit and try to make it flow. I do seek out some content myself, and I often refer to the Happenings of Haines Junction Facebook Page.

I try to email community event organizers a few days in advance to get the content. If you would like to be on that email list, please use the contact me below.
