June 6 is the BIG DAY for all Yukoners with a softer launch/reopening for Haines Junctioners while the new staff get up to speed happening in late May. 👉Congratulations to the the Haines Junction Junior Rangers and their Coaches Marcel Dulac and Ivan Thompson for their 2nd place overall in the National Shooting competition in Toronto. 👉Last week the Northern Premiers Forum hosted a community dinner at Da Ku Cultural Center. There was a fantastic performance by the Dakwakada Dancers. Yukon Libraries also hosted the conclusion of the Yukon Writers Festival and it was so great to see local comic book artist/author Cole Pauls back home for a visit and presentation. 👉 Lots and lots of bear sightings. Be sure to carry bear spray with you if you’re out and about. 👉Thank you to the Village of Haines Junction, Rob McPhie and the WFN Wildland Firefighters for a great information session and BBQ on Monday to chat about firesmarting your property. 👋Champagne and Aishihik First Nations 👉Community Garbage Clean Up and BBQ Lunch Thursday May 15th from 10 am to 4:30 pm Please meet at the CAFN Admin Building or the Youth Centre We will give out garbage bags and gloves. Door Prizes for Participants 👉Da Kų Nän Ts’èddhyèt Join us for song, dance and culture as we come together to celebrate, Da Kų Nän Ts’èddhyèt which means "our house is waking up the land". If your child will be 5 years old by December 31, 2025, they can start Kindergarten at St. Elias Community School in the 2025-26 school year. Registration can be done online or in person. Registration opened on February 4, 2025. Snow geese, white-fronted geese and all sorts of ducks have been spotted already. The next trip is scheduled for Wednesday, 14 May: Haines Junction. 👋Parks Canada 👉 Kluane National Park and Reserve Facilities are opening for the season May 16th! 👉The Kluane National Park Visitor Centre in the Da Kų Cultural Centre will be open daily 9am – 6pm. Engaging exhibits and videos, friendly staff, park information and backcountry registration take place here. 👉The Thechàl Dhâl Visitor Centre will be open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am – 4pm. The Kathleen Lake campground will also open for the season on May 16. Mountains. Magic.” We need you! The 2025 Kluane Mountain Bluegrass Festival is looking for roughly 75 volunteers for our 20th anniversary edition. At the end of May, it will be closing for the summer and will not be open again until the fall. The clear out sale, when everything must go, will be held on Thursday May 29, Friday May 30 and Saturday May 31. The volunteer staff do their best to donate or recycle whatever items don’t sell by the end of May, but unfortunately some items do end up in the landfill. Please come out and support your local second-hand shop, and help reuse items and keep them out of our landfill! 👋Sports, Health and Fitness 👉Romp-n-Run Romp n Run is on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-11:30am Come enjoy a facilitated program, followed by a healthy snack, and free play. 👉Yoga Lotus yoga classes are: Sundays @6pm at the Atrium in the St Elias Convention Center. Join Sarah-Monique in a 75 mins FLOW class of stretching and strengthening.Donation amount of $15 recommended. Please bring a mat and comfortable clothes.
