This weekend…
Haines Junction welcomed the always exceptional Kluane Bluegrass Festival. A huge thank you to the organizers, volunteers and musicians who made it a fantastic weekend full of friendship and incredible music. We had 12 junction kids playing in the Yukon soccer tournament in Whitehorse this weekend. Coach Martin Jar reports that the kids braved some pretty cool temperatures and wet weather but had incredible team spirit and each player gave 100% on the field. The girls u11 team played exceptionally and took home first place in their division! We had 2 boys on the u10 team from Dawson and they placed 2nd and 2 girls on the u16 team from Dawson who lost in a penalty shootout and placed 4th. Congratulations to all of the Yukon’s young soccer players for a great tournament! Soccer Total Soccer Excellence is hosting a soccer camp at the field at St. Elias Community School on June 12, 13, and 14th. The camp is for kids aged 6 to 15 from 10:30 am to 2:30 during the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The cost for the camp is $50. Please contact Jake Hanson at 335-4423. Henry Navarro is an accomplished fashion designer and professor of fashion design at Ryerson University in Toronto. Henry’s experience and focus on site-specific fashion – fashion inspired and created in local community contexts – will bring an additional element to this year’s program. The Junction Artist in Residence Program provides one of the only opportunities for Canadian fashion and textile designers to be immersed in a community setting for a 3-month long period. The JAR program is one of the only artist residencies in the world that exists with the goal of incorporating fashion media and we are excited to celebrate this unique program for its second installment.
