Haines Junction Library
The Haines Junction Public Library and the Shakwak Valley Pool are running a “Read to Swim” program from Friday July 6 to whenever the pools closes for the season. Children ages 7 and up can come to the library on Tuesdays and Fridays and read for one hour. (no computers, no screen time). For their effort, they get a voucher for free access to the pool for one day. At the end of the season, the library board will pay the tab. The library is open 1-5 Tuesday to Friday and Saturday 2-5. Augusto! Do Not Miss the Magic! The Festival is now 54% Sold Out! The second annual Augusto! Children’s Festival will take place from August 10 to 12 at the St. Elias Convention Centre in Haines Junction. The Dakwäkäda Dancers will open the festival late Friday afternoon, getting kids warmed up for dancing with Ross River's Dena Zagi band. The theme this year is magic and theatrics - let your imagination be your guide! Learn a few magic tricks, decorate a festival bird mask, dance, drum, join the circus circuit, create a sock puppet or a milk jug swan – with 28 workshops, there is something for everyone! Toddler Town for ages 4 and under will be a mini festival in itself with short concerts, structured craft activities, storytelling corners and the amazing cardboard village to explore. All ages will come together for the feature performance on Saturday night – a one hour interactive magic show, with Alberta magician Sheldon Casavant. To start the magic, ventriloquist Kellie Haines will open the show with her puppet musical - fast paced ventriloquism, singing, dancing, high kicks and physical comedy will keep the audience guessing who is pulling the strings! Weekend passes for ages 5-12 are $30 and include both evening events, up to six one hour workshops Saturday daytime and Sunday morning, plus a $5.00 credit at the Kid's Cafe in the Atrium Weekend passes for ages 2-4 are $20 and include both evening events and access to Toddler Town Saturday daytime and Sunday morning. Junction Artist in Residence Hey Junctioners! Are you interested in being part of The Junction Collection: A Site-Specific Fashion Project? We are looking for MODELS to be part of the design process and the final fashion show Gala! Stop by to meet the artist on Tuesday and Wednesday this week from 5:30-7:30pm at St. Elias Convention Center. No experience necessary, come by next week to see what modelling for this project is all about! You need to be able to commit a few hours of time over the next month or so and you must be available for the gala event on October 13th. This is part of this Junction Artist in Residence - JAR Program featuring this year's artist, Henry Navarro.
